About Rico Bakker

Rico Bakker is a podcast creator, speaker and author of the book 'The power of a bad idea', which has been in shops since April. He helps people/organisations break free from their classic perspectives and fixed patterns of thinking by tapping into new thought paths. Within various organisations, he uses bad ideas as a means to find unconventional answers to essential issues.

Creative thinking is one of the most important skills in the 21st century. However, we are often taught 'what to think' rather than 'how to think'. We are tested by giving the right answers to - perhaps - the wrong questions. After all, it's not just about how smart you are, but 'how are you smart'. Our brains are fast and efficient because of the connections we make every day. Those connections keep our lives organised and predictable. They help us solve problems with little effort, and by thinking logically and systematically. This is great because logic gets us safely and quickly from A to B. But sometimes it stops us from seeing alternative perspectives.

Although we often think we need freedom to be creative, surprisingly, constraints can generate the most creativity. If we want to think veers, we need to ask different questions. Questions that lead to insane, unrealistic and downright bad ideas. We should be allowed to live a little more often as if it were our first day. That way, we will break free from our assumptions and innovative thinking will have a chance.

How to do that? That's what you'll hear in Rico's keynote presentation on 'the power of a bad idea'!
