Since childhood, Chantal has had an interest in the elderly. In recent years, Chantal has immersed herself fully in the system of elderly care. As a student, as a professional in home care and various nursing homes at home and abroad, as a carer of her grandfather with dementia and now as an entrepreneur. She has seen what goes well, but also what could be done better.
During her studies in Social Pedagogical Work, she did internships in nursing homes and later also took the Applied Gerontology course, which is entirely devoted to elderly people and ageing. Thanks in part to many internships at home and abroad, Chantal became increasingly interested in what was happening on the floor, both with staff and with the elderly. When she herself became a carer for her grandfather, who suffered from dementia, she experienced a carer's journey up close. She saw what it does to someone when they can grow old in a pleasant way. And she wishes that to more people. Partly because of her experiences, she speaks various 'languages' and knows what and where things need to be done better / differently, so that we can ensure that all elderly people can grow old in a healthy, but above all happy way. In this, she is inspired by the Blue Zones - 5 areas in the world where remarkably many centenarians live in good health.
In the Netherlands, while everyone wants to get older, no one wants to be old. So it is time for change. Time for getting older to be fun again! And the basis for a healthy and happy life: the feeling of belonging. How we are going to ensure this together, Chantal shows in her keynote.
